Akka is a women-led collective providing support for women in Hackney. Although primarily focussed on members of the Tamil and South Asian community, the ultimate aim is to extend support to a much wider group of women and to create a community through shared cultural experiences. Akka translates to older sister in Tamil and relates directly to the tag-line “Women supporting Women”. The logo developed uses the vibrant colours and typography associated with Sri Lankan culture. As art director of the first two Akka campaigns, I engaged a photographer and copywriter to collaborate on the look, feel and tone of voice, which was then applied to the social media and printed assets. I continue to work with Akka as art director and designer.
